Why Us?
We design, implement, and evaluate grassroots projects to empower families to connect more with nature and find solutions to local challenges. Read about our projects and programs below
Letty the Leocarpus
We created Letty to personify the Curve-Spined Lecocarpus (Darwin’s Lecocarpus), an endangered endemic flowering bush found only on San Cristóbal Island. Developed with local educators and artists, Letty appears in two illustrated children’s books: first as a young seedling dreaming of finding a home, then as a determined teenager facing threats from invasive species. Through magical realism and scientific drawing, we use Letty to help readers connect with this real endangered plant and understand that all plants are living beings with vital roles in our ecosystem.
Letty’s Keepers
Following the success of Letty’s story, we launched a local initiative called “Letty’s Keepers” to invites schools, families, and businesses to adopt and protect real Lecocarpus plants. By becoming a Keeper, community members help Letty fulfill her three-part mission: watch her seedlings sprout, transplant them to new locations, and protect them as they grow into adult plants. Through this hands-on program, supported by the Galápagos National Park, Charles Darwin Foundation, and USFQ Galápagos Science Center, we empower our community to actively increase the population of this endangered endemic species while celebrating the islands’ unique biodiversity.
ACCION Youth Eco-Club
What began in 2024 as a school-vacation day camp, our “Adapting to Climate Change with Innovation, Optimism, and Nature” (ACCION) program empowers young changemakers ages 11–17 to become the next generation of Galápagos environmental stewards. Through weekly hands-on workshops, community gardening, and ecological restoration projects, participants learn about climate resilience while actively restoring biodiversity in their island home.

I am certain this experience enriched their knowledge and fostered a deep respect for our natural environment. The students were captivated by the beauty of Cerro Petrel and the information shared. This activity will be remembered as a significant moment in their learning.
